They may have started out as streetwear, but hoodies are now firmly placed in the wardrobe's essentials. They look casual and cool when just hanging out with friends and bring function to the form when you're keeping fit out in the frosty winter air. And with corporate and workplace uses thrown into the mix, it's true that there's a hoodie for all seasons
In its simplest form, the hoodie is just a sweatshirt with a hood attached. But that doesn't come close to describing the variety on offer. Here's a breakdown of the types of plain hoodie brands we have in stock, and more information for what to look for when purchasing hoodies specifically in wholesale or bulk quantities. Here's a breakdown of the variety of options when it comes to hoodies:
The first thing to note is the weight. Some hoodies are designed to be worn like an outer layer, almost like a jacket, so look out for a heavier knit if this is what you're looking for. Others are lighter, but never really lighter than, say, a polo shirt. They are ideal for layering with a t-shirt and perhaps worn under a coat or jacket. There are also mid-weight hoodies, which probably make up the majority of those that are on sale. They might be worn as a sole layer between spring and autumn, or over a t-shirt or under a jacket in the winter.
The second big difference is how - or whether - you fasten them. Hoodies come in two designs: zip-up and pullover. Pullovers go over the head like a t-shirt or sweatshirt and are perfect if you want a big, bold design on the front. Pullover hoodies might have a pouch pocket running right across, a kangaroo pocket in the middle or two side pockets, and many have no pockets at all.
Zip-up hoodies are easier to get on and off and to control your temperature when you're wearing them. Just make sure you're getting them to print large designs on the front, as the zip will interrupt the image. They're great for a smaller design on the breast, however, and sometimes lettering can work in the preppy heavy serif style, arching right across the front. There are also half-zip pullover hoodies, too. These have a collar zip that reaches down to the chest, making them easier to get on and off, but also to regulate temperature.
You want colours? We've got colours. If you can imagine a hoodie in any shade, we're pretty sure we'll stock at least one. From brilliant white to charcoal black and every colour of the rainbow in between, there's a hoodie that's just right. Fruit of the Loom and Gildan are probably your best option if you're looking for the more unusual colours, as they stock huge ranges in some of the designs. Again, if you're printing onto them, make sure you get a pale shade unless you're using opaque inks, as many colours won't show up on dark fabric if it's the wrong type. For sheer ranges of colour, we recommend Fruit of the Loom, Gildan, and AWDis Just Hoods, as they're aimed at the pro market and have hoodies in superb ranges of subtly different colours.
Many hoodies are pretty basic, but some come with a bit of hardware like drawstrings, eyelets, pockets and elasticated sections. Be careful choosing hoodies with drawstrings as they come in a range of sizes, from those resembling shoelaces to heavy flat strings. It's mainly for design, though - most people don't use the drawstring to pull the hood tight.
Take notes of the age group you're buying for. Kids' ranges are quite different to adults' and are sold in age ranges rather than sizes. There are average sizes for kids of that age, so take note if you're buying for kids who are larger or smaller - some older children might be in adult sizes. Hoodies are pretty unisex garments, but some have slightly more feminine tailoring. Again, it's down to personal choice - if you're looking for an oversized hoodie, it won't matter if it's a men's or women's cut.
The final option is the brand. We only sell high-quality clothing, so you can rest assured that whatever hoodie you buy from us, it'll be well-tailored, fast-dyed and ready to be worn, re-sold, and printed on to your heart's content.
